What are the Side Effects of Asthma Drugs?
May 17, 2009 by: admin
Most asthma medicines are safe to use, and are prescribed by your doctor after careful consideration of your current health and any other symptoms you may be suffering from. However there are some side effects caused by the various treatments on offer that could affect some users.
Inhaled Steroids
Inhaled steroids are effective for long term treatment of asthma and are made using substances that are naturally found in the human body, so most patients will not have any negative reactions to them. However there are a few mild side effects related to inhaled steroids, which include thrush (mouth and throat), dysphonia (vocal stress) and bronchospasms, which occur when the inhaler is used too vigorously.
Immunomodulators
These act directly on the immune system, and are mainly used for severe and persistent asthma that is causing a poor quality of life. This is a fairly new drug, which has recently been discovered to cause severe allergic reactions in one out of every thousand users. However this rate is so low, that most people will be able to use the drug without any problems.
