Interdisciplinary research

Tackling the research challenges of today means bringing together interdisciplinary teams to work collectively to solve problems.

We encourage and support interdisciplinary working across the University. It produces exciting and innovative research and attracts high quality staff who enjoy working across disciplines.

Creating opportunities for our researchers to pool their knowledge is part of our dedication to inspiring collaboration.

Research Institutes and Centres

Our Research Institutes to offer a new approach to solving problems of global importance. They build on existing strengths and bring together academic talents from across a range of disciplines.

There are also number of multidisciplinary research centres working across the University on a broad range of subjects. These include the Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) and the Welsh Institute for Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods (WISERD).

Postgraduate interdisciplinary awards

An awards scheme organised by postgraduate researchers encourages doctoral researchers from different disciplines to come together and discuss shared research interests. It also helps develop students' transferable skills by giving them an opportunity to work collaboratively.

The award was used to help fund the Removing the Divide conference which brought together four multidisciplinary networks of postgraduate students undertaking research on varying aspects of culture within the Commonwealth.
